Petrol Stations During the period of the introduction of lead free petrol most service stations did not have the capacity for the new product. Miles Contractors worked extensively in this area fitting new tanks and removing old ones. More than eighty tanks were fitted, including one of the biggest tanks in the country which was 45ft long with a 10ft diameter and needed a 100 ton crane to lower it into the ground. Miles Contractors have also undertaken total forecourt refurbishments which have involved tank installations, pump islands, canopies, associated pipe-work, electrics, hand-stands and drainage. In one case the tank excavation was achieved in running sand which required a dewatering system to be used. This pumped 17,000 gallons per hour until completion. .
